At the Labia from May 25 till May 31 -

Cari Connazionali, Dear Friends of Italy and of Italian Cinema,

I am happy to invite you to the first edition of the Italian Film Week – La Settimana del Cinema Italiano in Cape Town! The Week will be open to the public from May 25 till May 31, with an Opening Night, by invitation only, on May 24 at 7.30pm.

Yes I know, for the last 20 years we've had the Italian Film Focus in November, also at the Labia. Don’t worry: the Italian Film Focus – organized by this Consulate in collaboration with Controluce – will still keep going, with its traditional features (movies recently released in the latest festivals, actors and producers from Italy, etc.).

But we thought that it would be nice to have some Italian movies also during the first half of the year and so, under the auspices of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its program Fare Cinema, we have organized this Italian Film Week in the month of May.

Entrance is R40. All movies are in Italian, with English subtitles.

The Opening Night will be Thursday 24, at 7.30 for 8.30 (light refreshments will be served). Please kindly reserve your free ticket by clicking on this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/italian-film-week-opening-tickets-46141680007. You will need a printed copy of your ticket in order to be granted access to the movie.

The opening film is “Il Giovane Favoloso” by Mario Martone, on the life of renown Italian poet Giacomo Leopardi. The movie will be introduced briefly by Dr Mara Boccaccio, lecturer of Italian at UCT and teacher at the Dante Alighieri Society of Cape Town.

I hope you will appreciate this new feature in our yearly cultural program, so we can repeat it next year!

Also, keep an eye for another email from this Consulate in the next few days: it will be the invite for the Italian National Day! This year we will host it in a very special venue.
Save the date for June 5, from 6 to 9pm.

With my best regards, cordiali saluti e a presto,

Alfonso Tagliaferri
Consul
